As of 2003, an increasing number of Austrian stroke units have documented stroke-related data in an interregional registry, which was founded by ÖBIG in cooperation with the Austrian Society of Stroke Research (ÖSGF) and is now run by BIQG.
Time is brain
Every year approximately 35 000 strokes are registered in Austria. A number of treatment options are possible only within a certain time after the stroke. Therefore patients have to be transported to specialised stroke units as quickly as possible.
The majority of stroke units communicate anonymous treatment data to the Stroke Unit Registry, where transport times and other specific data are analysed. The results that show may help optimise processes such as transport to hospital within a shorter time.
