Pharmaceutical Expenditure – Country Profiles. Cost-Containment Strategies (2001)

Single Country reports on the Health Care and Pharmaceutical System of 15 EU Member States focussing on cost-containment measures (German only)

The country profiles provide answers to the following questions:

• How is the health care system organised (outpatient and inpatient sector, funding, reforms)?

• In which way is the pharmaceutical market regulated (registration, reimbursement, pricing, distribution, …)?

• Which measures were taken from 1990 to 2001?

• Which were the effects of the reforms?

Furthermore, the report provides data on the health care system (health care expenditure, …), on the pharmaceutical market (pharmacies, wholesale, pharmaceutical production and sales) and on the pharmaceutical system (pharmaceuticals registered, prescription medicines, reimbursed pharmaceuticals, prescriptions, co-payment, total public and private pharmaceutcal expenditure from 1990 to 1999). The pharmaceutical system of a country is, for the first time, presented in form of an organistional chart.
