On behalf of the Department of Mens's Policy established at the Ministry of Social Security and Generations OEBIG provided the first countywide report on men's health in Europe.
Average life expectancy of Austrian men (75,5 years) is like those of Austrian women 20 years ago. Furthermore, men are more often affected by non-gender-related diseases as cardiovascular diseases, cirrhosis of the liver and lung cancer.
Aim of the "First Austrian Mens's Health Report" with particular consideration of health care for men” is to highlight reasons the gender-specific health differences between of men and women and to present approaches regarding better life-style and behaviour patterns of Austrian men. The report includes a comprehensive description of risk factors (e. g. lifestyle, working conditions, stress), as well as a presentation of epidemiological data. The investigation of lifestyle and risk factors included a marekt survey, too, comprising questions regarding motives for behaviour patterns. Supplementary best-practice-models in Europe are presented.
Finally together with a high level expert comite recommendations for target-group specific health care actions were worked out and suggested for implementation.
