Curriculum for Midwives’ Training (in German, 1996)

Educational material for theory training course

With the entry into force of the new Midwives’ Act on 29 April 1994 and of the Midwives’ Decree on 5 September 1995 the training for midwives was changed fundamentally. The main changes are: opening of new spheres of competence to midwives; access requirements (upper secondary school leaving certificate/Matura or university entrance qualification for Medicine), and extension of the duration of training from two to three years. Because of the inclusion of an additional year, the whole theoretical and practical training had to be reorganised and updated. In the course of restructuring, additional subjects were integrated. The diploma exam will be held in a transdiscipli-nary manner and will focus on casuistics.

Published in October 1996, the curriculum for the theoretical training is a guideline for instructors to present their material in a practically oriented way. On 468 pages, the content and the educa-tional targets for each of the 28 subjects are outlined and the corresponding training units are described.
