Reitox Focal Point

In 1995 ÖBIG joined REITOX (Réseau Européen d’Information sur les Drogues et les Toxicomanies), the European Information Network on Drugs and Drug Addiction consisting of Focal Points in all member states of the European Union.

Commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs the REITOX Focal Point of Austria was established at the ÖBIG.

The Focal Points of the REITOX network are integral parts of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA, http://www.emcdda.europa.eu) seated in Lisbon. The common objective of the EMCDDA and REITOX is to provide objective, reliable and comparable data and information on the drug problem. The REITOX working programme is defined at the European level, by means of annual agreements between the EMCDDA and ÖBIG, and includes the following central tasks:

• Compiling reports on the drug situation in Austria
• Management of the EDDRA database
• Participating in the early warning system on new psychoactive substances
• Implementing the epidemiological key indicators
