Quality assurance in surgery

Assuring quality in the area of surgery is a joint project of BIQG, the Austrian Society of Surgery (ÖGC) and the Professional Association of Austrian Surgeons (BÖC), aimed at promoting quality assurance in surgery departments.

The goal of this registry is to permit consistent quality assurance in general surgery with a minimum of time and efforts spent for documentation. Documentation is limited to those cases where unplanned surgical reinterventions are necessary within 14 days after the original operation.

The analysis of the data will eventually make it possible to derive reoperation rates, broken down by type of surgery, as a quality indicator of the individual departments.
