Graduates in psychology have the option to obtain a postgraduate qualification in clinical psychology and/or health psychology. These qualifications as well as the self-employed exercise of the corresponding professions are regulated in the Psychologists’ Act, which has been in force since 1991.
A list of clinical psychologists entitled to exercise this profession as well as a list of authorised health psychologists is maintained by the
Ministry of Health. Approximately 97% of clinical psychologists have also completed a training programme in health psychology.
GÖG/ÖBIG continually monitors and analyses the quantitative development of these two professions and the legal regulations governing them throughout the EEA area and Switzerland. Other focal issues of studies in this field include quality assurance of professional training and the exercise of the corresponding professions as well as investigations into specific areas of care.
