This department deals with a wide range of national and international projects and activities for primary and secondary prevention as well as health promotion. The corresponding functions include drawing up and implementing plans, carrying out research and evaluations, developing and establishing quality assurance measures as well as continual monitoring and coordination.
The focus here is on illicit drugs (including addiction prevention), public health services and oral health as well as prevention measures such as mammography screening and diabetes prevention. As a part of prevention research this area also deals with the procedures of Health Impact Assessment (HIA), which is considered a tool with great potential in the sense of integrating health in all policies.
The aspect of social disadvantages is treated as a cross-sectional subject in various areas (addiction, general prevention, HIA).
