The EU research project Pharmaceutical Health Information System (PHIS), which started in September 2008, aims at improving the exchange of information and knowhow on pharmaceutical systems, in particular pricing and reimbursement, in the EU member states. In addition to the outpatient sector, for the first time also the pharmaceutical situation in the inpatient sector will be covered at European level.
The PHIS network primarily comprises national authorities and hospital experts representing over 30 countries (the EU-27, Albania, Canada, Iceland, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland and Turkey). In addition to the national stakeholders a variety of European and international institutions (EAHC, DG Sanco, DG Enterprise, EUROSTAT, OECD, WHO) are represented in the PHIS Advisory Board.
In the course of the project a glossary, a library (with country-specific information on pharmaceutical pricing and reimbursement systems of the European Union and other countries participating in the PHIS network), indicators, a database (with data on the indicators) and a separate hospital report will be made available.

PHIS website.
