Planning activities in the outpatient care sector in Austria focus on determining the number of contracts concluded with established physicians, which are negotiated between the Austrian Medical Associations and the social security institutions. The outpatient departments of hospitals and other outpatient clinics have not been covered by systematic planning so far, primarily because no uniform documentation systems exist, therefore no basic data for planning are available.
Since the Austrian Hospital and Biomedical Equipment Plan (ÖKAP/GGP) has been replaced by the Austrian Health Care Structure Plan (ÖSG), which covers all sectors of health care, the entire outpatient sector has become relevant for planning. GÖG/ÖBIG takes part in the development of documentation systems across sectors and new planning methods, which may form the basis of integrative planning of the entire outpatient sector.
