In Austria oral health surveys were carried out twice for all WHO age groups in the period from 1996 to 2006. The surveys showed that the age group of children six-years old do meet the WHO goal for 2000, the 12-year olds do already meet the goal for the year 2020. The 18-year olds did meet the goal for 2000 and nearly met the goal for 2020. For the adult population the goal for 2000 aimed at a comparison to 1981 which could not be verified due to the lack of data from 1981.
In 2006 the oral health surveys will be repeated on the basis of the same method for the second time, again starting with children from six. In this way it will be possible to detect changes due to intensified prevention activities. Further on a cooperation with the Austrian Federation of Sickfunds was estab-lished to enhance the sample size so that data on regional level will be available.
