The Austrian REITOX Focal Point of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) has been operating since 1995. Over the years, national and provincial tasks were added so that GÖG/ÖBIG has gained importance as a national drug-monitoring agency.
Key projects include the Report on the Drug Situation in Austria, the
Suchthilfekompass (Addiction Help Compass, an Internet site providing information on drug help services), the
DOKLI system of treatment reports, the analysis of drug-related deaths, the coordination of the information and early warning systems as well as updating the Ministry of Health’s data base on addictive substances.
Other activities are aimed at quality assurance in the drug help system, exchange of information at national and EU levels, and research.
