The goal of health reporting is to point to deficits in the state of health of the population and in health care services, devise measures to improve the situation and review these measures with regard to their effectiveness and efficiency. Health reporting thus is an ongoing process that should take place at several (regional) levels.
A health report is a well-founded basis for highlighting health-related problem areas, defining health goals and deriving health planning activities (health promotion and prevention as well as planning the health care system in the curative sectors). It is therefore both the basis for and the starting point of the Public Health Action Cycle (PHAC). A periodic evaluation, in the context of health reporting, of the outcome of health policy measures that have already been implemented completes the cycle.
GÖG/ÖBIG plays a focal role in the area of public health in Austria and provides an exchange of information nationally (e.g., by hosting the Health Reporting Platform) and internationally.
