Nonphysician health care professions in Austria have been a focal theme of this department for more than three decades; Professions. The most important tasks here include the preparation of a scientific basis for legislation on these professions, developing curricula, providing systematic assistance regarding professionalisation, as well as monitoring and reporting on quantitative and qualitative aspects of these professions.
The tasks, scope of activities, roles and job profiles of nonphysician health care professions as well as qualification requirements to be met have undergone manifold changes. Therefore it is of increasing importance to adapt the corresponding mechanisms of regulation and quality assurance with regard to work and education/training to meet changing demands.
The goals of our activities regarding health care professions thus include matching of practical work requirements with education/training in (nonphysician) health care professions, oriented towards current needs and future developments as well as adequate service provision and demands of patients, on a basis of technical consistency, quality assurance and affordability, in accordance with EU regulations. Another goal is to build a coherent structure of (nonphysician) health care professions in Austria with a coordinated architecture linking different professions and service providers.
