ÖGIS, the Austrian Health Information System, is an essential instrument of health reporting organised as a geographic information system (GIS). It presents data as maps and time series and offers straightforward methods of statistical analysis on all epidemiological key themes (e.g., life expectancy, mortality, cancer incidence, inpatients per year, subjective state of health). In addition, ÖGIS supplies detailed information on almost all subsectors of the health care system (e.g., acute care hospitals, rehabilitation centres, care homes and nursing homes, established doctors, mobile care services or ambulance service centres).
ÖGIS gives answers to a variety of questions such as the number of pacemakers implanted in Austrian hospitals, the number of diabetes patients needing inpatient treatment or the subjective state of health in the individual provinces. The range of questions covered also includes, for instance, life expectancy in a certain district compared to the Austrian average or increased cancer risks in specific regions.
These are but a few examples of queries that are possible through ÖGIS. Key data on health-related indicators are also available as maps for regional comparison: see REGIS.
ÖGIS evaluations are carried out according to individual requirements of clients and in consideration of data protection regulations (pay service).
