Health care planning

Acute care hospitals

Acute care hospitals (hospitals funded by provincial funds, accident hospitals and sanatoria) are the most important care providers in Austria. Their activities include the provision of complex medical services, which represents a considerable cost factor in Austria’s health care sector. Therefore, the Austrian Hospital and Biomedical Equipment Plan (ÖKAP/GGP) focuses on this area, and also the planning provisions of the 2008 Austrian Health Care Structure Plan (ÖSG) primarily relate to acute care hospitals, and non-acute inpatient areas are investigated only in exceptional cases. GÖG/ÖBIG has collected a comprehensive data basis and looks back on many years of experience in the field of planning for acute care hospitals, which are integrated in the project activities in this sector.
